Mary O’Brien | Senior Development Director
Mary brings over a decade of nonprofit fundraising experience to her new role as Senior Development Director. Her career path weaves through conservation, community philanthropy, higher education, fiscal sponsorship, and the performing arts, with a consistent thread of building authentic relationships in support of meaningful work.
Most recently, Mary served as Director of Advancement at Commonweal in Bolinas and Director of Development at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, where she expanded scholarship opportunities and partnered with the Esselen Tribe of Monterey County on healing and reconciliation initiatives. She has led advancement efforts at Northland College, directed community funds within the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation, and served as Director of Advancement at Landmark Conservancy, one of Wisconsin's largest land trusts. A lover of the arts, Mary founded and curated the Madeline Island Summer Film Series for six years.
Mary's background in land use and place-based philanthropy connects naturally to CLAM's work preserving affordable housing and community wholeness across West Marin. A recent transplant to Bolinas, she and her Golden Retriever (Chet!) look forward to deepening their roots in the region.
