Making Homes Affordable for Generations to Come
The Community Land Trust of West Marin (CLAM) was created to acquire and hold land for the benefit of the community and future generations in the rural, unincorporated western part of Marin County, California.
More than 80 percent of the land in our geographic service area is owned by national or state parks or is protected by conservation easements for agricultural production. This environmentally sensitive and high-value landscape, regulated by both Marin County and the California Coastal Commission, makes West Marin one of the most challenging areas in the nation to find and create affordable homes.
CLAM emerged out of a desire to ensure that affordable homes for low- and moderate-income families were integrated into each of the rural communities surrounding Tomales Bay. By leveraging community assets — including cash donations, low-interest loans, local government and private foundation grants, and in-kind volunteer support from architects and builders — CLAM has been able to acquire, rehabilitate, and place income-eligible residents in affordable and sustainable homes throughout this geography.
For all properties, CLAM retains ownership of the land, ensuring permanent affordability for generations to come.
