ABOUT US

About the Community Land Trust Association of West Marin

CLAM was founded on a simple but powerful idea: community means both place and the people within it. In West Marin, where high housing costs make it difficult for working families to afford to live and work here, CLAM works to ensure that our community includes everyone, not just those who can afford market-rate prices.

As a Community Land Trust, we restructure the traditional relationship between people and property. When CLAM acquires property, we remove it from the speculative market and preserve it to become permanently affordable housing. This means that the families living in CLAM homes today, and every family that follows, will find housing within reach of their income.

Home by home, we're making West Marin a place where people of all backgrounds and income levels can afford to live.

Our Mission

CLAM strengthens communities in West Marin through the creation and stewardship of permanently affordable homes.

Our Vision

We envision a diverse West Marin community where people have a secure place to call home.

Our Core Values

Belonging — We believe that housing is a human right, and that a mix of ages, races, ethnicities, and incomes contributes to our economic and social vibrancy.

Stability — A mix of rental and home ownership options provides an essential foundation for families and communities to thrive.

Community Stewardship — We create and steward permanently affordable housing and are governed by our members, who include the residents of our homes and the broader community.

Integrity — We create an environment of trust, compassion, and fiscal responsibility.

Collaboration — We cultivate and embrace partnerships with all who work for the benefit of West Marin.

As a community land trust, we understand the importance of a sense of place to people’s lives. We put people and community first.

Our Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that we are gathering on the ancestral land of the Coast Miwok people, who have been the stewards of this place for thousands of years. This land was, and continues to be, of great importance to Coast Miwok communities. We recognize the displacement they have experienced and honor their enduring connection to this place.

As CLAM works to address the displacement challenges facing our community today, we are mindful that these struggles are part of a much longer history, and we have a responsibility to make visible our relationship to the original peoples of this land.
