CLAM's Blue House Project
The Second Unit - A Passive House
Text and photos by Terry Nordbye
Pre-Construction
The newly-formed design committee for the passive house.
Standing: Jon Fernandez, Marshall Livingston, Jim Campe (CLAM Property Committee).
Seated: James Bill, who has stepped in to help CLAM bring the plans for the passive house to County-ready.
He is a registered architect, well trained and versed in Passive protocol and design, and ... he is working with us pro-bono (as are all these CLAM volunteers)! Why would a stranger from San Anselmo do such a thing? He likes CLAM's vision, he likes the project, and he is dedicated to making houses attain their highest potential of energy reduction. The plans currently in use are a take-off from a previous Jim Campe design.
Architect Jim Campe, the godfather of site/house planning, laying out and taking elevations of the future passive house (2nd unit) location.

Demolition
On December 8, 2009, a volunteer crew organized by Jim Campe met to begin taking the existing 2nd unit structure apart, looking for anything that can be reused or recycled. Thanks to Alden Adkins, Jim Campe, Jon Fernandez, Roger Lippman, Marshall Livingston, and Rishi Schweig.
